Fixing A Clogged Shower Head in Muskego Home
Are you standing under a trickle of water, wondering where your water pressure went? A clogged shower head is probably the culprit. Lime scale buildup can block the water holes over time. Try soaking the shower head in vinegar and cleaning out the holes with a pin. If the shower head is so badly corroded that it needs to be replaced, you may want to look into buying a self cleaning shower head, which pushes mineral grime to the outside where it can be wiped away.
When installing a new shower head, first remove the head while holding the shower arm in place. Then unscrew the shower arm from the water supply pipe inside the wall. Make sure the shower arm has external “male” threads on the shower head end, since newer shower heads will have internal “female” threads. Wrap Teflon thread-sealing tape in a CLOCKWISE direction, around both ends of the shower arm. Wrapping the tape clockwise prevents it from being twisted off when reinstalling the shower arm. When fitting the shower arm into the supply pipe, retry if the arm doesn’t screw in smoothly. Make sure to replace any tape that has been damaged. Attach the new shower head, then turn on the water and look for leaks. If you see a leak where the head is attached, remove again and wrap more Teflon tape on the threads. Reinstall and continue to test until you have eliminated all leaks.
