Asphalt Driveway Repairs

If your Asphalt Driveway is not seal-coated, sunlight will eventual break down the asphalt, allowing for moisture to get into cracks, eventually creating even larger cracks, upheaves, and dips. Cracks less than 1 inch wide can be easily fixed by simply filling and sealing. For cracks wider than 1 inch, you will need to repair the same way you would any other hole.

Before making any repairs you will need to prep the driveway repair area. You will need to remove all oil stains which could potentially bleed through the sealer by applying a degreaser and scrubbing the area with a stiff bristle brush. Secondly, you will need to remove all weeds growing in cracks. Finally, you will need to thoroughly sweep away all dirt and debris. Now you are ready to start your driveway repair.

The First step to fixing your asphalt driveway cracks wider than 1 inch is to fill all holes with asphalt patch. If your driveway cracks are deeper than 1 ½ inches, you will want to fill them in layers. Add 1 inch of asphalt patch at a time, pack it down, and repeat. Second, add the asphalt patch until it is ½ inch above the surface, pack it down with a post and repeat until it is level with the driveway. Next, fill smaller cracks with crack filler until it is flush with the driveway. Allow for all fillers to dry completely. After all filler are dry, apply driveway sealer with sealer applicator, working in 100 square-foot sections. Allow sealer to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

Driveway Sealer Tip: Select a day when it’s at least 55 degrees. The higher the temperature the easier it is to apply the sealer.
